From the 1960’s

1965 Fender Stratocaster … There is a long story that goes with this guitar, and Rick will personally pass it along to you.  This was one of his main playing guitars during the 1960’s.  The guitar was stolen from him and he later recovered it in Europe.  Long story.  This guitar was used extensively on stage and in the recording studios and is pictured on the cover of one of Rick’s albums.  The guitar itself is a classic 3 tone sunburst finish with a tortoise pickguard.  It features a rosewood fingerboard with the small headstock and transition logo, L959XX series neckplate.  It plays and sounds great.  Call or write for lots of photos.  OHSC   $79,900

Fender 1966 Stratocaster

Fender 1966 Stratocaster … Another sunburst model in spectacular condition.  This near mint example has the large headstock and white pickguard, rosewood fingerboard and synchronized tremelo.  It plays and sounds great.  The pickups are clear sounding with great tone and sustain.  This is one of those magic guitars, it’s just right.  Offered at 49,900

Other Rick Derringer Guitars That Have Come and Gone!

One of Rick’s touring guitars.  It’s a 1997 Fender Custom Shop all original ’60 Relic with an Olympic White body with a worn gold anodized aluminum pickguard.  Texas Special pickups, vintage synchronized tremelo, rosewood fingerboard with clay dot inlays on a birdseye maple neck.  This is a great sounding and playing guitar.  Sold!

This one is really special, a blond 1958 Gibson Super 400 C.  Rick bought this guitar in 1965 shortly after the release of “Hang on Sloopy” with the McCoys.  He has written many songs on this guitar over the years and has been one of his most prized instruments.  It is a spectacular blond Gibson Super 400 C acoustic cutaway archtop that is in beautiful condition.  The flamed maple body absolutely rings, it has a clear, loud voice that is well balanced with no dead spots.  Great action and setup, the neck and frets are perfect.  Comes with a certificate of authenticity.  It has the original brown case.   Sold!

Paul Reed Smith – Soapbar    Rick has been playing a PRS Soapbar model guitar now for about 3 years since the model was introduced by PRS.  He describes it as the ultimate rock and roll machine featuring the tremelo tailpiece and 3 pickup single coil sound of a Stratocaster with the set neck and shorter scale fingerboard.  This one, in Whale Blue has toured and recorded with him for a couple of years now.  It’s in excellent condition with the original case.  It comes with an autographed picture of Rick playing the guitar and some extra goodies.  This model is now discontinued by PRS.  Sold!

Alvarez Acoustic / Electric

Here’s Rick with his Cobalt Blue Alvarez Acoustic / Electric.  It’s been everywhere with him over the years.  One of the main “travel guitars” of the past decade.  It’s a single cutaway model with no soundhole.  He’s constantly fighting feedback since he does play with significant volume and high energy.  It has a maple body with a spruce top, and ebony fingerboard with snowflake inlays with a 24 fret neck.  Sounds great with the PR400 preamp.  It’s been around, it has a ding on the back, case shows some wear, but a great sounding guitar with a real history.     Sold!

Rick  Derringer with A Fender  Stratocaster

Starting out this young guitar great, vocalist and entertainer, Rick Derringer was just 16 when his band "The McCoys" recorded the No.1 hit "Hang On Sloopy" in the summer of 1965, knocking "Yesterday" by The Beatles out of the top spot.

"The McCoys" had enjoyed four years of successful touring, when Rick merged his talents with Johnny Winter in 1969 forming "Johnny Winter And" ("And" referring to "The McCoys").

Rick was the only producer of all gold and platinum Winter Brothers recordings.

In '71 Rick was featured on three records, "Johnny Winter And", "Johnny Winter And-Live" and "Edgar Winter's White Trash". "And" featured the first version of Derringer's "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo" which was also released as a single, then selected again for "And - Live".

Eventually the busy Derringer joined Edgar's White Trash full-time and produced the gold LP, "Roadwork". Derringer's solo album, "All American Boy" was released in '73 with the now already popular "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo", this time as a 'hit' single.

Rick was writer/producer of Johnny Winter's "Still Alive and Well" album and player/producer of the hit album, "They Only Come Out At Night". The latter featured the No. 1, Grammy nominated monster hit, "Frankenstein" and "Free Ride".

In 1976 Rick created the Derringer Band. During the latter half of the seventies Derringer released four albums, Derringer, Sweet Evil, If I Weren't So Romantic I'd Shoot You and Face To Face. In 1983 Rick returned to his solo career with the LP, "Good Dirty Fun."

Throughout the 70's and 80's the popular Derringer appeared on numerous albums with artists Alice Cooper, Richie Havens, Todd Rundgren and Steely Dan. The list also includes Cyndi Lauper, Barbra Streisand, Kiss, Mason Ruffner and Madam X.

In the mid-80's, Derringer discovered Weird Al Yancovic, producing music for Grammy-winning albums and videos. Derringer's productions of the Michael Jackson parodies, the No. 1 hit "Eat It," and "Who's Fat," have been Yancovic's most successful recordings.

Rick was selected to be producer/writer/performer of the World Wrestling Federation LP's. Hulk Hogan's theme song, "I Am A Real American" was written and performed by Rick as a part of these projects.

Derringer was once again sought after by Edgar Winter and in 1990, performed for the LP, "Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer Live in Japan". In the late 1990's many shows found Rick and Edgar on stage together and they joined together for an all-star re-union with the White Trash Horns at 1999's Montreaux Jazz Festival. Also in 1999 Rick then collaborated with Edgar as songwriter/guitarist on his "Winter Blues" CD.

Through the 1990's Rick has recorded a string of highly acclaimed blues releases on Shrapnel Records Blues Bureau International including "Back To the Blues" in 1993 followed by "Electra Blues," "Blues Deluxe" and his 2000 release "Jackhammer Blues."

Derringer's destined-to-be-classic "Tend the Fire" was released in Europe to rave reviews and is eagerly expected by his loyal fans here in the US. Added to "Tend the Fire" will be the Rock anthem, "The Dawn of Love" co-written by Rick and Genda Hall and produced by superstar producer Bill Szymczyk for the benefit of children suffering under tyranny throughout the world.

Rick believes that "Tend the Fire" might well be the best music, to date, he's recorded.
